This year VIP honors Ms. Cecilia Gastón as the first honoree of the Cecilia Gastón Award for extraordinary contributions to the cause of gender justice and immigrant rights. The evening will begin at 6:30 with cocktails and dinner, and culminates with and exciting award ceremony and entertainment at this prestigious NYC venue overlooking Central Park. The evening will be hosted by New York City’s own Yolanda Vasquez of Telemundo 47.
Cecilia M. Gastón has been a crusader and champion for the rights of marginalized communities in New York City for over 30 years. She has had impactful tenures at Inwood House, the Committee for Hispanic Children and Families, Inc., the New York Women’s Foundation, the Mayor’s Office Task Force on Domestic Violence, and most recently the Violence Intervention Program, Inc., where she served as the Executive Director for the past 10 years. VIP is proud to honor her career and inaugurate this award in her name to recognize individuals with extraordinary contributions for the rights of Latinx survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
Yolanda Vásquez is an anchor for Noticiero 47 Telemundo Al Mediodía (Telemundo 47 News at Noon), which airs weekdays from 12 PM until 12:30 PM. As a member of Noticiero 47 Telemundo Al Mediodía, Vásquez reports the most important news for viewers in the New York tri-state area. She joined Telemundo 47 in 2006.
In 2014 and 2015, Vásquez has honored by the New York Chapter of the National Association of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) with two Emmy® awards. In addition, several local organizations have recognized Vásquez for her commitment to the Hispanic community, including the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association, the City Council of New York, and the Harlem Youth Marines Association.
