Safe refuge and a path to permanent housing for survivors and their loved ones.

VIP offers a full spectrum of housing services including homelessness prevention, emergency shelter and permanent housing placement. We’re here to help all survivors to navigate the complicated housing system in NYC.

Emergency Shelter (Moriviví Safe Dwelling Program)

Our Morivivi Safe Dwelling Program offers short-term emergency housing and supportive case management for single adults and families fleeing domestic and sexual violence. Our program includes individual and group counseling, advocacy, and case management to help individuals and families create a plan for their future. Upon arrival, clients receive food and toiletry kits for each family member and taken to a confidential location where they will safely reside with us. Every space is private, and equipped with new bed linens, cleaning supplies and other needed items for them to feel comfortable in their temporary home. Families share a bathroom, kitchen and living room in a private apartment units. Families can stay for up to 90 days, with extensions possible for up to six months. Our goal is to provide a safe and supportive environment for families as they rebuild.

Transitional Housing (Casa Sandra)

Our Casa Sandra program provides supportive housing for single adults and families stabilizing after domestic violence. Program participants stay in a private apartment (not shared) for up to 12 months, with extensions possible for up to a total of 24 months. During their stay, participants are offered supportive services, including case management, economic planning and advocacy, and are provided referrals for other needs such as mental health and legal services, as needed. All units are furnished and include appliances, bed linens and access to food and toiletries.

Placement in Permanent Housing (Rapid Re-Housing, or RRH)

This program secures permanent housing for families and individuals who are experiencing or are at risk for homelessness as a result of domestic violence. We provide customized assistance and services to achieve this goal, including time-limited financial support and targeted supportive services. We tailor these services to meet each survivor’s needs and work with survivors over a 24-month period to achieve permanent housing goals.

These services are available to you if any of the following is true:

  • You are experiencing domestic violence and/or you are in imminent danger of any kind of interpersonal violence, or
  • The person hurting you is the sole financial provider in your home, or
  • You are sleeping in the street, car, park, or other non-livable space due to domestic violence.

Preventing Homelessness (Home+)

VIP partners with the Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-based Violence (ENDGBV) to offer survivors of domestic and gender-based violence essential security and safety resources. The program is specifically designed to empower survivors in the Bronx who choose to remain in their homes instead of seeking refuge in shelters or alternative locations. By offering a range of support services, Home+ supports survivors to increase safety in their current homes and prevents homelessness.

Home+ services include:

  • Installation of alarm systems, security-related repairs to apartments (lock changes, etc.)
  • Financial assistance for housing-related needs
  • Case management and referral services
